Writer's Block: Annals of Animal Warfare
It really depends on which animal gets the upper hand. The shark has a great bite, but you can't discount the beak on a squid, even the little two footers are a danger to divers. And the suckers can be nasty as well.
If the shark caught the squid by surprise and nailed it with a bite the squid's toast. if the squid saw it coming and tangled it up in it's arms, blinded it with ink, and ripped into the shark with it's beak there's every chance the squid would win.
Try and find what happens today if a real life shark, like say a 30 or 40 foot Great White goes after a squid that's got the same scale with the shark as the match up you suggested above. Oh, and the Sperm Whales do eat squids, but they also bear nasty scars from the encounters... | | 1:30 pm |
In the fullness of time...
Ha, ha, ha! Well, I wondered how long it would take before this happened, someone is selling a "boxed set" of Slayers Revolution 1 - 13 on Ebay! You get your choice of English or Chinese subtitles too, so I'm smelling Hong Kong (or similar city), but I'm tempted to put a bid in anyway, if only to compare translations with the fansubs. | | Friday, November 14th, 2008 | | 1:55 pm |
Entitlement?
Well, well, well... Saw an interesting article in the local paper on the phenomenon known as "Student Entitlement", where students feel they only have to do below standard work to get above standard marks. Things mentioned included the ever popular "good attendance earns a "B"", and "if I only do "C" level work, and that's what you give me, it isn't because that's all I earned, it's because you hate me...". Jolly fun... Well, word of warning, I may be new to this job, but I'm teaching nurses. I'm giving pupils the skills to litterally take someone's life into their hands and I'm sorry, but if you don't show me the work, it's my belief that you don't get the marks. But, and I've already seen it, there are students who will argue with you... Or am I wrong? Maybe I should just let go of my inner psychopath and pass the lot, knowing that I'll be doing my bit to make someone else's life that much more painful? Hmmm, I wonder if Phibby-chan would have approved? Speaking of inner psychopaths, we are now up to three oilwells bombed and one suspiciously tampered with in our area (Dawson Creek BC Canada). Apparently, someone has hit on the brilliant idea that to stop the gas and oil companies from polluting the area with toxic substances, they are entitled to blow up the well head and pielines, releasing said toxic substances into the environment... Go, go, Eco-terrorists!!! Not... | | Monday, November 10th, 2008 | | 2:19 pm |
Busy-ness
Well, since my last post I've been accepted a the college and have been doing a sort of do it yourself orientation. Which, given that I've never actually done any formal teaching before is a bit, well, daunting... As for the hospital, they did accept my full time resignation and let me stay on as a casual employee, we will see how that goes. But, since this position is only guaranteed for one year (with the possibility of it becoming permanent next year, after some things the college has to get straightened up, are...) I figure I had better keep a foot in the door with the hospital on the off chance I need to go back. This is going to be a busy month, I'm coming on board just in time to take a class out to the "local facilities" ( official speak for nursing homes...) and help them have their first clinical experience. Part of me is looking forward to the challenge, part of me is wondering why I cant win the lottery and crawl into obscurity somewhere. I wonder, would it help me to win if I bought tickets? Mind you, I'd probably feel less antsy abut it all if I had been in on the teaching from the start, jumping into the middle of something tends to have its share of major suck-age, as they say. Well, next semester I will be teaching as well as everything else. Let's see, I get to teach Pharmacology, so, I get to tell the pupils all about major drugs and their uses and side effects. In preparation I'm busy watching everything I can get by Ben Stein, I want to emulate his teaching style in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"! ^_^ Speaking of whom, who here has watched "Expelled" yet? | | Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | | 12:30 am |
As Expected...
So, the election here is as dry as dust and as boring as hell. No issues, no one standing up to the PM about his criminal activity, just what was expected. Captain Jack Sparrow had it right, dishonest men can be counted on to be dishonest. Why don't people listen? Feh! Don't wake me up when it's over, okay? As for me, after twenty six years in nursing, I'm working towards a slight career change and becoming a nursing instructor. Maybe. If the college wants me, and I can get leave, or resign, from the hospital. A career change shouldn't be so complicated, but, who wants me to be bored? ^_^ | | Saturday, September 6th, 2008 | | 12:13 am |
Whom the gods would destroy they first make crazy...
Well, for what it's worth, I see Canada is about to enter into a silly season and have itself a little election. I guess PM Harper thought the Americans were just having way too much fun... But to do it, he has to break a "fixed date" law he himself passed. Silly question, doesn't that make him a criminal? You know, break a law, become a law breaker? You'd think no one would trust such a man as far as they could throw him, if he breaks a law so casually, he'll break any promise he's ever made in a campain with even less regard. But, you know, people will vote for him... Sigh... And we will get the same old same old about how you have to get out and vote. But no one ever asks what do you do if you want "none of the above"? Well, I refuse to believe I can't complain if I didn't vote, my first complaint would be that there was no one worthy to vote for... If I ignore it, will it just go away? | | Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 | | 2:13 am |
Night Shift... Well, at least they didn't block Live Journal here at work.
Perhaps I should explain that I am a Registered Nurse and I work in a medium small hospital in a city called Dawson Creek, which is in North Eastern BC, Canada. A few of you may have heard of the place as it is the official "Mile 0" of the Alaska (aka AlCan) Highway...
But enough tourism...
Honestly, I don't see what the problem was with face Book or Myspace but they took 'em. I mean yeah, those sites have their limits, and if you are at work you need to especially avoid the silliness, but they were okay for networking with other nurses. And even the doctors...
I get the feeling it was people in self important authority who weren't smart enough to figure out how to use the sites and didn't like the rest of us showing them up that yanked them.
Bloody Psychopaths... -_-
Or would that be Lemmy Martin? I have my suspicions about Amelia Wil Telsa Seirune as well... ^_^
Speaking of Slayers, I'm almost done converting my entire collection of anime to Japanese soundtrack, English subtitles MP4's. Yup, gonna load up my iPod. Aleady have the audio tracks for the albums and radio plays. If I have any room, I suppose I could start scanning the art books in next... Well, that's the rant for now, back to work... | | 2:11 am |

Writer's Block: Your Username
I chose my user name because I find my self intrigued by the character "Naga the Serpent" from the anime Slayers. I believe there is a lot more to her than you see on the surface and I have fun trying to puzzle her out. But it's okay, the doctor assures me his shiney pills will make it all better, someday... | | Saturday, August 16th, 2008 | | 9:24 am |
Well, I better update... Not a lot to say. I joined a long time ago, but didn't get to this site much, other inerests kept me busy. Not that I forgot LJ, I just didn't have much of a chance to use it. But I'm goingto try and make an effort. And I'm still not sure how to find people on this site, but I'll figure it out... ^_^
Anyway, I am a big fan of Naga the Serpent from Slayers because I enjoy trying to figure her out. Yeah, I know, but it's okay, the nice doctor assures me the shiney pill will eventually make it all better... ^_^ In the mean time I'd love to hear form other Slayers fans, even the heretics who don't know Naga half aswell as they should and like her only half as well as she deserves...
Oh, and I used to have interests in RL too, only I forgot what they were...^_^ | | Wednesday, March 8th, 2006 | | 9:28 am |
Well, my first entry...
Okay, I came here to read up on the story that a couple of people I know from another site are working on. I also hope to find other people here that I can chat and share with. Lte's see how well I do, he, he... |
